Employer Engagement Policy

Updated: June 20, 2025

This document consolidates the expectations and policies that govern employer interactions with BYU-Pathway Worldwide, including Career Services and BYU-Pathway Global Education Centers. Employers, staffing companies, and recruiters agree to adhere to these policies upon engaging with BYU-Pathway students and alumni.

These policies follow U.S. standards, including:

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles
  • CES Honor Code

  • Employers must not discriminate in any phase of the employment process based on race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, veteran status, marital status, or ancestry.
  • Employers must provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and avoid prohibited interview questions per equal opportunity standards.
  • While international employers may have different local norms, BYU-Pathway holds all participating employers to U.S. nondiscrimination and ethical standards.

Employers wishing to recruit BYU-Pathway students must offer one or more of the following types of roles:

  • Full-time or part-time roles that provide hourly wages, a salary, or a salary plus commission (commission-only roles are not permitted)
  • Piecework roles with clearly defined units of work, transparent pay-per-unit terms, and an earning structure that aligns with fair labor practices and country-specific wage expectations
  • Internships that provide professional-level experience, require ongoing supervision and feedback, and clearly state compensation (whether paid or unpaid)

Regardless of role type, the following standards apply:

  • Compensation must be communicated in writing before any training begins and before the candidate’s start date.
  • Payment should be prompt and follow a pre-established schedule.
  • Work environment should include adequate training, coaching, and performance recognition.
  • Job descriptions must be clear, accurate, and truthful.

The following types of employment are prohibited:

  • Door-to-door or seasonal sales roles
  • Commission-only roles
  • Private domestic or individual labor (e.g., babysitting, caretaking, tutoring)
  • Employment in industries contrary to CES standards (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pornography)

Employers are expected to:

  • Pay competitive wages on a prompt and regular schedule
  • Provide career development opportunities for students
  • Advertise positions truthfully on job boards
  • Conduct fair, qualifications-based screening

Staffing Companies

  • Must meet all employer standards
  • Preferred vendors must:
    • Employ 50+ BYU-Pathway students/alumni
    • Provide monthly workforce updates
    • Not publicly claim partnership status with BYU-Pathway

To protect the integrity and neutrality of BYU-Pathway Worldwide and its affiliated services, the following policies apply to all employers, staffing companies, recruiters, and affiliated vendors:

  • No Claim of Partnership: Employers, staffing agencies, or vendors may not represent themselves — publicly or privately — as “partners” of BYU-Pathway. This language is prohibited in marketing materials, conversations with students, or internal communications. BYU-Pathway also will not refer to any employer or staffing company as a partner.
  • Use of BYU-Pathway Name or Branding:
    • The BYU-Pathway name, logo, and brand identity may not be used in any employer materials, including job postings, promotional graphics, social media, advertisements, or signage without explicit, written permission from BYU-Pathway Worldwide.
    • Any prior authorization may be revoked at any time at BYU-Pathway’s sole discretion.
    • This restriction applies to any co-branding with BYU-Pathway Global Education Centers or Career Services.
  • Misrepresentation: Employers must not imply endorsement by BYU-Pathway in written, verbal, or implied ways. BYU-Pathway's role is to facilitate connections, not to validate or guarantee employment quality or outcomes.
