FAQs

What are the requirements to participate?
The following are requirements for admission to BYU-Pathway Worldwide:

  • Be willing to live by the CES Honor Code. (After you complete foundational courses, an ecclesiastical endorsement is required to continue your degree.)
  • Be at least 16 years old (with a high school/secondary school diploma or equivalent) or age 18 and older (with or without a secondary school diploma or equivalent).
  • Attend weekly gatherings (either online or in person) during the first three blocks of your degree program.
  • Complete an English proficiency assessment (for non-native English speakers). If you need help improving your English skills, BYU-Pathway recommends taking EnglishConnect.
  • Have access to a smartphone or computer with internet and webcam/video chat capabilities. All foundational courses can be accessed and completed on a mobile device. However, depending on your degree program, you may need a laptop with the ability to run specific software. View complete details on our technology requirements page.
Are scholarships or financial aid available?
While BYU-Pathway Worldwide does not accept traditional U.S. federal financial aid, we do offer a guaranteed tuition discount to all students—on top of our already significantly low tuition rates.

Here's a quick overview of available tuition discounts:
  • All BYU-Pathway students are eligible for a tuition discount of 10, 25, or 50% off their tuition balance.
  • Returned missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are eligible for a 25% tuition discount if they returned within the past 60 months.
  • Additional needs-based scholarships are available for degree-seeking students.

For more information, visit our Tuition Discounts page.
How much time should I plan to spend studying each week?
Generally, students spend 3–5 hours per week on coursework per credit. However, some students may need more or less time to succeed. Each student should consider their own situation, English language skills, and work pace when planning their schedule.

So, for a typical 3-credit course, you can expect to spend around 9–15 hours per week, adding up to approximately 63–105 total hours over a 7-week course block.

Is obtaining an online degree or certificate legitimate?
Yes, online learning is an effective and trusted way to get the same education and results as in-person classes. Every degree and certificate offered through BYU-Pathway is created and granted by either BYU-Idaho or Ensign College. Both of these schools are fully accredited in the U.S. and have been serving students for more than 130 years. The courses you take online follow the same curriculum used for in-person courses at BYU-Idaho or Ensign College.

At BYU-Pathway, we believe online higher education is especially valuable for students who want convenience, flexibility, and lower costs. Earning a degree online through BYU-Pathway lets you study from almost anywhere and create a course schedule that fits your life.
