One friend’s invitation led Jimmy to answers he had been praying for
I have always believed in God. When I needed to earn money to care for myself, I prayed for help. The Lord inspired me to start my business, a fitness school in Pétion-Ville, Haiti.
Education is the key to success. I knew it would help me with my business, but the university I enrolled in became too expensive and I had to stop going to school.
I didn’t know where I would study; I just believed. With the situation in my country, it wasn’t safe to walk to school, so I prayed to find an online university I could afford.
Then one day, my friend invited me to participate in BYU-Pathway Worldwide . The low-cost, online education was exactly what I had been praying for.
I began by first strengthening my English skills with EnglishConnect .
Meeting Christlike examples through EnglishConnect
Through EnglishConnect, I met the service missionaries, Elder and Sister Snow. They were so kind and helped me strengthen my English. I asked them to pray that I could improve my skills to become an English interpreter.
I started praying and reading the scriptures with them. We read Nephi’s story from the Book of Mormon, and I decided to visit The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There, I met the full-time missionaries and asked a lot of questions.
I learned that baptism is an act to show your belief in Jesus Christ, and I love Jesus Christ! Because of my faith in Him, I decided to follow Jesus’s example and be baptized on July 25, 2025.
Becoming a better professional through coursework
After finishing EnglishConnect and being baptized, I earned a certificate through BYU-Pathway in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). The courses helped me to grow spiritually and professionally.
The religion courses reminded me to keep my covenants and follow the commandments. This encouraged me to pray and read the scriptures every day so I can always stay close to Jesus Christ.
My favorite course was PC 101: Life Skills because it helped me learn how to create a cover letter, interview well, and create a profile on LinkedIn. These skills gave me confidence as a professional and helped me get my dream job as an online English interpreter.
I realized I would learn more from failing than I would from simply giving up.
Finding success through God
When I started BYU-Pathway, the U.S. system of education was unfamiliar to me, and it was difficult to study in another language. I was worried about failing a course and thought about quitting, but then I realized I would learn more from failing than I would from simply giving up.
I prayed for help and worked really hard. God put His Spirit upon me, and I passed the course! If you feel like you want to give up, ask God to make you strong, to give you knowledge, to give you success.
Now I have my fitness business, I work online as an interpreter, and I’m continuing to study online through BYU-Pathway. Everything I asked God for, He always made a way.
The same love I found that God has for me, He has for you. He will answer your prayers and lead you to success.
