Please review the simplified instructions below for participating in the BYU-Pathway Choir. Your video will be combined with all fellow students participating in the choir.
If you have any questions as you work through these steps, please reach out to us at communications@byupw.edu.
Step 1: Select Your Singing Range and Download Your Files
BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s virtual global student choir will be singing to hymn: “Faith in Every Footstep.” If you are unfamiliar with this song, please listen to a version of the hymn here before beginning these instructions.
Click on your singing range then download the following files:
- Download the soprano sheet music for “Faith in Every Footstep."
- Listen to a singing demonstration for how to sing your soprano part. (Note that you don't start singing until 00:52 seconds in.)
- Download the audio track that you'll sing along to as a soprano. (You'll start singing at 00:52 seconds when the humming starts.)
- Download the descant sheet music you also get to sing as a soprano.
- Listen to a singing demonstration for how to sing your descant part in soprano.
- Download the audio track for the soprano line of the descant. (Again, you'll start singing when the humming starts.)
- Download the tenor sheet music for “Faith in Every Footstep.”
- Listen to a singing demonstration for how to sing your tenor part.
- Download the audio track that you'll sing along to as a tenor. (You'll start singing when the humming starts.)
- Download the descant sheet music you also get to sing as a tenor.
- Listen to a singing demonstration for how to sing your descant part as a tenor.
- Download the audio track for the tenor line of the descant. (Again, you'll start singing when the humming starts.)
- Download the bass sheet music for “Faith in Every Footstep."
- Listen to a singing demonstration for how to sing your part as a bass.
- Download the audio track that you'll sing along to as a bass. (You'll start singing when the humming starts.)
Step 2: Learn the Music
Learn the music by listening to your singing range’s audio track while following along with your singing range’s sheet music.
If you are a soprano or a tenor: Do the same thing for the descant part of the song. You will need to submit two files: the full hymn in your singing range and the descant part.
Please note that while the audio files do not have words, you are to sing the words in your sheet music along with the humming in the audio track.
Please sing the lyrics as they are written in the sheet music; don’t translate the words. Most of the arrangement is in English with the exception of verse 2. Here you will sing the lines of the language you are fluent in. If you do not know any of the languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, or French) then just wait to sing until the English resumes again.
Step 3: Practice Singing
Now that you are familiar with your part, you can listen to how the whole song will sound when all the parts are combined.
Full Audio Track
When you record yourself singing, you’ll need to have headphones in your ears so that you can sing along with your singing range’s audio track — without the recording picking up the music. We should only be able to hear your voice so that we will be able to combine all your voices together!
If you feel some of the notes are too high or too low, just act as if you were singing them and resume singing the notes that are comfortable.
Lastly, practice singing along to the following videos of Sister Michelle Sundwall, our choir director, conducting the song.

Step 4: Record and Submit Your Video
Now, you will record just as you’ve practiced!
- Record yourself using the link that best fits where you are located with either your phone or computer:
- Frame your head and shoulders in the middle of the screen while you record yourself horizontally.
- Make sure you are recording in a quiet place with good lighting so we can see you. (See an example in your recording link above).
- Dress in your Sunday-best clothing and/or clothing that represents your culture.
- Submit your video using the same link as above.
Happy singing!
