    Transfer credit process

Still want to submit your credits from another school? Review the following FAQs to get started.

    Does BYU-Pathway accept transfer credits?
Yes! Here's what we accept and what we don't:

    We accept:

    • Credits from regionally accredited U.S. colleges and universities

    • Only transfer courses with a grade of C- or higher

    We do not accept:

    • Credits from schools outside the U.S.

    • Technical and vocational course credits

How does the transfer credit evaluation process work?
The process depends on which path you take.

Preferred Path: If you start your degree with the preferred path, you begin with PathwayConnect. Your previously earned credits are evaluated for transfer after you complete the foundational courses associated with PathwayConnect and declare their degree.

Advanced Path: If you start your degree with the advanced path, you bypass PathwayConnect. Once admitted, you can submit transcripts for evaluation right away.

You can submit transcripts through the Document section of the BYU-Pathway student portal.

Will my previous college credits help meet degree requirements?
Yes, we accept credits. However, because our three-year degrees have eliminated electives, many transfer credits may not fulfill degree requirements.

    What you need to know:

    • We accept most credits from regionally accredited U.S. colleges and universities
    • Most transfer credits are applied as electives
    • Our three-year degrees have eliminated most elective requirements
    • This means many of your credits may not count toward your degree

    Your credits will help if:

    • They match a required course in your program

    • They fulfill a general education requirement

Your credits likely won't help if:

    • They only count as electives

    • There's no equivalent course in your program

Recommendation: Submit your transcripts, and we will evaluate them and apply any that fit with your selected degree.

Do transfer credits affect my GPA?
No. Transfer credits will not be calculated into your grade point average (GPA). Only courses taken through BYU-Pathway Worldwide and its partners will factor into your GPA.

Credits earned in BYU-Pathway's PathwayConnect academic courses count toward your online degree.

Do institute credits count toward my degree?
Yes! Institute courses taken "for Church university credit" can fulfill your religion course requirements if they meet two conditions:

    • You earned a grade of C- or higher, or a pass (P)

    • The course matches a required religion course at BYU-Idaho or Ensign College

These credits appear on your transcript but don't impact your GPA.
How can I submit my transcripts for evaluation?
You can submit your transcripts after you've been accepted and have declared your degree. Important: All transcripts are processed by CES Admissions Processing at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Transcripts that are not sent using the instructions in your student portal will not be accepted.
