How to Make Devotionals a Regular Part of Your Spiritual Growth

These tips will change the way you watch the devotionals each month

BYU-Pathway Worldwide is committed to helping you grow both spiritually and temporally. The monthly devotionals are a great way to feel the Spirit. They are meant to be studied, shared, and reviewed. To help you make the most of each devotional, here are a few easy-to-follow tips.

Take notes

Taking notes can help you to remember your impressions. Elder Richard G. Scott once taught, “Knowledge carefully recorded is knowledge available in time of need. Spiritually sensitive information should be kept in a sacred place that communicates to the Lord how you treasure it. That practice enhances the likelihood of your receiving further light.” 1

As you take notes during BYU-Pathway devotionals, your recorded impressions will open you up to receiving further light and knowledge from God. It is important that you listen for promptings from the Spirit and write down your impressions.

Share with others

The recordings and transcripts of the devotionals at byupathway.edu/speeches make it easy to share your favorite quotes and messages with others. Take advantage of opportunities to share what you learn from each devotional. This will also give you the chance to review your notes and discuss your spiritual growth. Consider sharing your impressions with your family, friends, or other students in your gatherings.

Discussing your notes and the teachings from the devotionals will help you to dive deeper into what you have learned and make it easier to find ways to apply those principles throughout the month.

Receive new revelation

Speaking about general conference, President Russell M. Nelson said, “Those who have spoken have been instruments for the Lord. I pray that you will seek for the Holy Ghost to guide you in your study as you contemplate the truths taught from this pulpit. They have truly been heaven-sent.” 2

This thought also applies to BYU-Pathway devotionals. Speakers are prayerfully chosen and their messages are carefully prepared. If you can, watch the devotionals again throughout the month and pay attention to any new promptings or thoughts you receive.

Spiritually guided

As you follow these tips, you will increase your capacity to receive revelation through the Holy Ghost. Being in tune with the Spirit can bring peace to your life and your busy schedule.

So the next time you watch a devotional, take notes, review your notes often, and share them with others. You might be pleasantly surprised at the spiritual growth that comes!

Devotionals are shared on BYU-Pathway's Facebook and Speeches pages.
