The Lord says, “My soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.” 1

There are many benefits to studying with music, especially when done effectively. Here are four tips to introduce music into your studies.

1. Listen to instrumental music

The National Library of Medicine stated, “[Instrumental] music has a positive impact on the cardiovascular system and potential emotional benefits.”

While music lyrics can motivate people, lyrics require students to multi-task, which can distract from school assignments. Listening to instrumental or classical music can help you focus better as it plays in the background.

2. Keep the volume low

3. Find music that makes you happy

Music is known for impacting mood. This can be especially helpful when you need a mood boost, like when you feel overwhelmed by homework.

If you listen to music that makes you feel motivated or happy, assignments and projects may seem less daunting.

4. Choose a genre that works

for you

The National University recommends listening to classical, New Age music, nature sounds, electronic music, lo-fi hip hop, jazz, ambiance playlists, and film scores or game soundtracks.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has started releasing new hymns. Instrumental versions of hymns are a great option and can be found here .

Make studying enjoyable
