Are you searching for rest? Russell M. Nelson, Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gives counsel on how we can find it. Whether you're busy with school, work, or a social life, consider these three questions President Nelson asks that help us understand how we can find rest in the uncertainty of the world.

What does it mean to overcome the world?

“It means choosing to refrain from anything that drives the Spirit away,” said President Nelson. 1

As a student, you are constantly surrounded by voices claiming to speak the truth. To overcome the world means to silence the commotion and focus on what really matters — returning to live with God, Jesus Christ, and our families. It means to focus all efforts on keeping our covenants (two-way promise between God and us) with God to live.

How do we overcome the world?

We overcome challenges in our life by the promises we make with Heavenly Father at our baptisms and in the temple. This is not something that happens overnight! When we keep these promises, we are promised blessings.

You can be blessed with spiritual strength, personal revelation, increasing faith, and the ministering of angels. These help with gaining an education by guiding us to do and be better. By connecting to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ both your physical and mental burdens are lighter. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." 2

How does overcoming the world bless our lives?

“Despite the distractions and distortions that swirl around us, you can find true rest — meaning relief and peace — even amid your most vexing problems,” President Nelson. Having relief and peace during the semester can help you with new learning material, exams, and time management.

You can find relief and peace no matter your circumstances

You can find rest during trials if you turn to God with a sincere desire and as we keep our promises we make at baptism and in the temple. Finding rest brings us peace and comfort.

You don’t have to be perfect overnight, but President Nelson promises, “I assure you that our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, love you. They are intimately aware of your circumstances, your goodness, your needs, and your prayers for help. Again and again, I pray for you to feel Their love for you.”
