Celebrate Being You

God made us the way we are for a wise purpose

Heavenly Father declared, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love.” 1 He made each of us with care, purposefully unique, with an individual path and journey in this life. This allows us to learn and grow from each other, celebrate our differences, and is a reminder that God loves each of His children for who they are.

Our path and purpose is unique

We each have a specific path and purpose. This is also true in our educational struggles and strengths. God has made sure each of our journeys are unique to our individual needs, which ensures our best possible earthly experience.

Elder Jeffery R. Holland taught that in Heavenly Father's mortal choir, each individual has an important place to enhance the melodies of the song. “It is by divine design that not all the voices in God’s choir are the same. It takes variety — sopranos and altos, baritones and basses — to make rich music.” 2

"You are unique; you are irreplaceable"

Being different allows everyone to grow and learn from one another. Our uniqueness is what makes life interesting and fun! Elder Jeffrey R. Holland continues, “You are unique; you are irreplaceable. The loss of even one voice diminishes every other singer in this great mortal choir.”

Two Friends Hugging
Your unique talents, skills, and qualities bring a light to the world! Incorporating the gospel with your talents will also help bring others closer to the Savior. This allows you to make a difference in the world. If everyone was the same, the world would never change for the better. Sister Julie Crockett, a BYU professor, said, "We are supposed to be different! We were created as such for our individual growth and the growth of our friends and neighbors. Our individuality began before we were here and will continue on after we leave." 3

We are each blessed with different talents and should strive to share them with others to spread joy and learning. The scriptures teach, “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. … And all these gifts come from God, for the benefit of the children of God.” 4

A unique educational journey

Be Fearless Be You

When it comes to education, some of us may take more or less time to finish — and that's okay! God has carefully molded a plan for each of us, and as we strive to follow Him, we are promised blessings regardless of our current situation.

Everyone’s dreams are different, and our paths to achieving them are unique. God wants us to succeed, and part of gaining success is experiencing challenges to grow stronger through them and learn from hard times. President Henry B. Eyring taught, “Every person is different and has a different contribution to make. No one is destined to fail.” 5

God wants us to love who we are

God blessed us with strong minds, souls, and bodies, and He wants us to love what He has given us. As the second great commandment teaches, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 6 We should strive to celebrate others, and ourselves, for who we are and what we can learn from each other.
