Momentum is the force that keeps you moving in a certain direction. Think of a ball rolling down a hill or a child playing on a swing.

Spiritual momentum, while harder to see, is powerful. Building spiritual momentum now will help us become better disciples of Christ today and tomorrow.

Invitations from the prophet

President Nelson gave five invitations to help us create positive spiritual momentum:

  1. Get on the covenant path and stay there.
  2. Experience the joy of repenting daily.
  3. Learn about God and how He works.
  4. Seek and expect miracles.
  5. Strive to end conflict in your life.

In return, he promised five blessings:

  1. The ability to move forward on the covenant path with increased momentum, despite whatever obstacles you face
  2. Greater strength to resist temptation
  3. More peace of mind
  4. Freedom from fear
  5. Greater unity in your families

Blessings from following the prophet

BYU-Pathway Worldwide students who heard the prophet’s counsel took it to heart. As you read their experiences, consider how you can increase positive spiritual momentum in your own life.

Tonya Cutshall

"I just finished with cancer treatments, I moved, and now I'm going to school. I thought there was no way to get everything done. I decided to go to the temple as often as I could. Miraculously, I now have enough time to accomplish my tasks at home, school and church. If God asks you to do something, He will make a way for it to happen. My life has changed, and I have come to enjoy being on the covenant path." — Tonya Cutshall, USA

Jessica De Leon

“By following the prophet’s invitations, I have become more receptive to the guidance from the Holy Ghost, and I feel peace in my heart as I continue to overcome my weakness. I feel happier every day, and people notice that I always wear a beautiful smile on my face.” — Jessica De Leon, Saudi Arabia

Eromosele Douglas

“While learning about God and how He answers our prayers, I have come to understand that God always answers our prayers — every single prayer. The challenge is for us to understand how the answer comes to us. We must be open and allow His will to prevail by following the prompting immediately.” — Eromosele Douglas, Nigeria

Cindy Ledingham

“As I was preparing a church lesson, the Spirit told me to forgive two neighbors I hadn’t talked to for a year. I prayed many times. I was able to have the Spirit with me while giving my lesson, and when I looked at these two neighbors, all I could feel was love. When the lesson ended, I apologized and felt a weight lift from my soul. I am so grateful for a prophet who teaches us our Savior’s will.” — Cindy Ledingham, USA

Remember what Alma taught in the Book of Mormon: “by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.” 2 Pray for the faith to follow at least one of President Nelson’s invitations, and watch closely for the many blessings that follow.
