6.5 Confidentiality of Student Records
All individuals who have access to student records have a responsibility to maintain and protect the confidentiality of student information.
Confidentiality of Student Records
BYU-Pathway Worldwide is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Consequently, student records are managed in accordance with the Church’s Global Privacy Notice. In addition, the following policies also apply:Students can request access to their education records by contacting BYU-Pathway Support in writing at support@byupathway.org.Students can request that their education records be amended if they believe they are inaccurate or misleading (this does not apply to grade changes). Students can request such a change by contacting BYU-Pathway Support in writing, clearly identifying the part of the record they want changed and specifying why it is inaccurate or misleading. If a decision is made not to amend the record as requested by the student, the student will be notified of the decision and be advised of his or her right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing.Personally identifiable information contained in student records may be disclosed to institution officials with legitimate educational interests. An institution official is a person employed by the Church Educational System in an administrative, supervisory, academic, research, or support staff position; a person or company with whom BYU-Pathway has contracted (such as an attorney, auditor, or collection agent); a person serving on the Board of Trustees; a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee; or a student assisting another institution official in performing his or her tasks. An institution official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.The following information is considered directory information and may be made public: Student nameHome addressPhone numbersE-mail addressesReligious affiliation to local church or congregationPhotographDates of attendance (current and past)Number of months/semesters enrolledTotal hours earnedAnticipated future enrollmentsCourse registrations prior to the beginning of a semester/termStudents may block the release of their public directory information or may modify the display of their public directory information. This can be done through the student’s “Update Privacy Settings” tab after they log in to byupathway.org.l
